Post Cards from Camp

Executive Summary - no pictures tonight....maybe tomorrow

Last Night:
- That is the biggest bug I've ever seen.
- Oh man, they're everywhere."
- Can we change tents to one with less bugs?
- I need a bandaid.

Day 1:
- Where do we go? Where do we go?
- How do you carry a flag on a bike?
- Emergency Preparedness is fun.
- Tuck in your shirt.
- Lifesaving is fun.
- I like all my classes.
- Don't leave here without your water bottle.
- Rawhide is boring.
- I slept through First Aid, but it was air conditioned so I liked it.
- We got to go to dinner 3rd because Miss Diane had the 3rd tallest socks of the Scout Masters
- Scoutmaster training is boring
- I like riding my bike through our gateway. It feels like a knight riding in from battle.
- Note on our camp inspection form: Excellent gateway!

Day 2
- No one has died yet
- Chris and Miko completed the mile run
- Miko can do 36 situps after running a mile
- Miko discovered the pros and cons of being ScoutMaster David's SPL
- Ziad discovered that he's a pretty good shot with a rifle
- Ziad discovered that people expect him to pick up his own trash
- Ziad discovered that when you fall off your bike because you're showboating, your medical team is your troop.....no moms
- Ziad discovered that he didn't cry and made everyone aware of that fact.
- Michael discovered that he can kayak
- Michael discovered a bent back wheel makes it impossible to ride your bike after a Rawhider rear-ended him...................no human injuries.........the bike is in critical condition
- Augie discovered the prone position in rifle
- Augie discovered that it feels good to offer Michael his StingRay for the rest of the week
- Chris discovered moleskin
- Chris discovered that forestry rocks
- Chris discovered he can do 31 situps after running a mile
- David discovered the ScoutMaster steak dinner
- David discovered that he cannot finish stacking the woodpile.......he is not a boy
- Diane discovered that her laptop does not allow her to transfer pictures through the USB port
- Diane discovered that she likes the boys much better when they're "dewey fresh" so she offers clothes washing everyday
- Notable quotable from one of our very own, "Sir, is Roast Beef made of pork? Ziad can't have pork."
- We will participate in the Open Climb tonight
- For the worried mommies and daddies about swine flu, the Health Lodge installed 2 hand sanitizer dispensers at every door of the mess hall

Day 3
- All boys are still alive
- Augie bought a book of Campfire Skits at the Scout Shop. We've got a good skit for the audition now.
- Augie has been praying every night out loud that the bugs would not come in their tent
- It has scientifically been determined that our campsite is the DisneyWorld for Palmetto bugs and Fire ants. You see entire bug family reunions decked out in matching t-shirts and cameras hanging on our tent ceilings and crawling up our legs
- Michael is our fundraiser-in-training....he tried selling Augie's StingRay in the main parking lot. He got a bid of $400
- Chris is collecting bandaids on his legs...it appears he has been going to the Ziad school of bike-riding
- Hot temperatures......Hot tempers
- Michael has learned how to ride his kayak off a dry dock, dive with it underwater and come up without tipping
- Miko didn't get to Zip last night, the tower was too full. He went early tonight
- Ziad got to the top of the repelling tower last night, got all hooked up and stood at the exit door, but decided to take the stairs down instead. He went back tonight
- David learned that when you pull a late night prank and blame others in the morning, it's not very good for team building
- Scout master morning meeting complimented our gateway
- A kid cutting through our camp while I was working, complimented our gateway and our Leave A Trace mobile. He said, "You really came prepared."
- Take a look at the 2010 Planning Post......the boys have been pretty creative
- We are performing the evening flag ceremony Thursday evening
- OA campfire tonight

Day 4
- No deaths....some wish they were
- Thunder and Lightning....Rain....Wind.......SPPPSHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
- Last night Miko zipped
- Last Night Michael zipped, repelled and rock climbed
- Last Night Ziad zipped and repelled
- Bugs are friends....we encourage lizards to live in an near our tents and adirondacks because they eat bugs
- No flag ceremony this evening because of the storm
- Change of plans on skit: We're doing a joint skit with the troop that shares our campsite
- Chris is shooting off the rocket he built tonight
- Miko should become a professional terrorist after tonight.....his Wilderness Survival class is meeting at 9pm and will be dropped off in a remote place. They will be given several hours to slip undetected past 6 rangers who will be searching for them to get to their goal
- Mr. Willis is arriving tonight with Papa John's pizza and soda.
- Diane is leaving tonight
- Augie is very unhappy
